OSTARA - THE VERNAL EQUINOX - MARCH 19-22 Ostara, also called the Spring Equinox or Vernal Equinox, is a time when we, as Witches, celebrate the arrival of Spring. Ostara marks the day when night and day are equal or in balance. The sacred and magickal images of Ostara are the egg and the rabbit. In ancient times, Eostre was the Norse Goddess of Fertility, and it is she that is honored on this Sabbat day.  During this time, the chill of Winter begins to wane away, leaving the days to become warmer and longer. Looking around, we see new birth everywhere, from homes on the hillside to animals in the fields. Life has begun again.  This is the time to plant the seeds of flowers, herbs, and vegetables, or to plant the seeds of your own spiritual garden.  As the light takes over the dark,  Witches celebrate the fertility of the Earth and the growing of the young Sun God's energy. The ingredients of this blend are believed to be sacred to the Witches’ Festival Ostara or the Spring Equinox. For this recipe you will need the following ingredients, one teaspoon jasmine flowers one teaspoon lavender flowers one teaspoon lemon peel two teaspoons copal resin two teaspoons orris root powder two teaspoons pink rose petals pinch of saffron three drops lemon essential oil nine drops jasmine absolute oil thirteen drops myrrh essential oil Blend and grind the herbs together and add the drops of oil.   Burn this blend on a glowing charcoal during rites dedicated to the Witches’ Festival Ostara or the Spring Equinox.   This blend may also be burned to attract love, fertility, new beginnings, and prosperity. This magickal potion is to be worn on the wrists, soles of the feet, onto the neck, candles, crystals and added to spells associated with the Witches’ Holiday, Ostara. This potion can also be used to bring about new beginnings, to attract growth, luck, money, and love. one-half cup almond oil one dram honeysuckle oil one dram lavender oil one dram lemon verbena oil two drams jasmine oil pinch of lilac flowers pinch of rose buds one small rose quartz Simmer the almond oil and herbal ingredients in a non-enamel pan. Simmer for five minutes. You may want to recite a personal incantation or chant while the blend is simmering, directing your intentions into the Universe.
